David Hobson is loved by audiences for many famous tenor roles including that of Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed production of Puccini’s “La bohème”.

Teddy Tahu Rhodes is now one of the most sought after bass baritones in the world, with his performance as The Toreador in Bizet’s “Carmen” at The Metropolitan Opera in New York hailed as a triumph. Both these singers are able to cross easily into other musical genres, and audiences and critics alike were hugely impressed by the versatility they displayed during the 2009 tour.

On the 2011 Australian tour, David Hobson and Teddy Tahu Rhodes will again perform with Australia’s leading accompanist, Sharolyn Kimmorley.

Join twenty-five of the world’s most beautiful voices and one of Australia’s most acclaimed composers in a very special national tour.

For nearly 500 years The Vienna Boys Choir, or Wiener Sängerknaben, has been an enduring symbol of Europe, working with some of history’s most notable composers such as Fux, Salieri, Joseph Haydn and Anton Bruckner and conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Herbert von Karajan, Carlos Kleiber, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti and Sir George Solti.

The choir is one of the world’s most active musical ensembles and performs over 300 concerts a year. They provide the music for the Sunday Mass in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel, as they have done since 1498. Choristers also take part in opera performances at the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna Volksoper and the Salzburg Festival. Also singing popular music, they have contributed to a number of soundtracks for major motion pictures in the United States, Japan and Europe.

In 2012 the choir return to Australia to premiere a captivating new work by acclaimed composer Elena Kats-Chernin.

The program also includes an eclectic selection of the choir’s own choral repertoire.

Vienna Awaits for You… The captivating waltzes of Johann Strauss and the Strauss family have had an enduring appeal to audiences throughout the world for more than 150 years. Australian audiences will soon experience the authentic Viennese interpretation of this magnificent music when the internationally renowned JOHANN STRAUSS ENSEMBLE makes its first major tour to our shores. Led by the charismatic violinist RUSSELL McGREGOR, the 22 musicians of this acclaimed orchestra will perform many of the best loved Strauss waltzes and polkas including the Beautiful Blue Danube, Wiener Blut, and the Thunder and Lightning polka, so familiar to millions of television viewers of the traditional New Year’s Day concert in Vienna’s Musikverein. The program will also feature the works of Johann Strauss senior and his other sons Josef and Eduard, as well as popular works composed by their contemporaries. The Johann Strauss Ensemble was founded in 1985 by musicians of the famous Bruckner Orchestra, based in Linz. Many of the founding members will tour to Australia. RUSSELL McGREGOR is a remarkable Australian success story. The brilliant violinist left Melbourne twenty years ago, with the aim of pursuing a career in Vienna, one of the world’s great music capitals. Since then he has established himself as the city’s most famous STEHGEIGER (conductor/soloist in the manner of Johann Strauss himself). This modern day Waltz King communicates his passion for this music to audiences of all ages and also engages them with fascinating anecdotes about the Strauss family and their music, making these concerts a unique and truly memorable experience. The Johann Strauss Ensemble’s Australian tour of Vienna Awaits of You… is proudly presented by Andrew McKinnon and sponsored by BOREALIS AG. http://www.johannstrassensemble.at
